Compliance Services For Competitions & Game Shows
Trae Williams has close to 30 years of network television experience working on some of the most successful competitions and game shows in broadcast television history. He now brings that expertise to Williams TV Compliance. From the early development stages through production to the final review of cuts - we provide productions, studios and networks the protection and due diligence they need to ensure that the integrity, fairness and security of their valuable shows is always the top priority. With millions of dollars invested in a television project, all game shows and competition shows should strive to follow Best Practices to protect their huge investment and professional reputations. Williams TV Compliance will guide producers through this process and help them deliver their amazing shows with the utmost integrity.

Pre-Production
During Pre-Production, Williams TV Compliance can work closely with your team as you develop the Best Practices, Format, Show Bible and Series/Challenge Rules for your Game Show or Competition Show. Ideally at the outset of the Production it is best to create a Best Practices framework. This details all the steps Producers will take to ensure that the integrity of the Production is protected. Additionally, Staff and Crew should be provided with a Compliance Agreement to ensure that they understand the strict guidelines for working on a game show or competition. The Show Bible and Series Rules then detail for Contestants and Producers how the Format works: everything from Eligibility Requirements to exactly how the game will be played and judged. And finally, the individual Challenge Rules cover the specific Rules for challenges that take place during a game. Williams TV Compliance can provide guidance in any and all of these Pre-Production areas. Our experience will help you identify potentially problematic areas and ensure that all of your Pre-Production planning is detailed, comprehensive, and thorough so that the Production and game play runs smoothly and without incident.

Williams TV Compliance can provide a variety of services to ensure that the integrity of the contest is maintained. We can provide briefings to Contestants of the Series Rules and Eligibility Requirements and ensure that they are understood, agreed upon and signed. Williams TV Compliance brings decades of experience reviewing and approving content for broadcast television. If needed, we can provide a review of content and provide input into any aspect of a show as it relates to the content expectations of a typical Network Standards & Practices department. We can provide guidance in all areas of content, ranging from the accurate depiction of fair game play to other areas of content that typically set off alarms with Networks. We can help ensure that your projects are approved for broadcast quickly and with minimal notes.
International Expertise
Williams TV Compliance has worked on countless international productions and we are available to travel to any international studio or location to provide our on-set services. Additionally, we can also provide guidance to international studios and productions seeking to better understand the unique guidelines and parameters in place for Game Shows and Competitions being broadcast on U.S. television networks. Because these types of shows are regulated by the FCC and FTC, it is crucial for international producers to understand these guidelines before embarking on any game show or competition show that will be broadcast on U.S. television.

Game Show and Competition Show Genres

Quiz Shows
Quiz shows are heavily regulated by the FCC and require the utmost due diligence when it comes to following Best Practices. We can help draft a set of Best Practices, assist in the creation of Show Bibles, review Series Rules, provide Rules briefings to contestants, attend tapings and monitor game play, oversee randomization and other protective measures, serve as independent game judges, assist in the resolution of contestant disputes, maintain detailed game reports, administer prize forms, and review cuts in post-production.

S&P experience includes: Beat Shazam, Don't Forget the Lyrics, Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader, Name That Tune, Cherries Wild, Boom!, and many others.

Secret-based Game Shows
Secret-based game shows have become increasingly popular. These shows typically involve games where contestants are tasked with solving one or more secrets based on a series of clues. These shows can be challenging because unlike typical quiz shows where there are thousands of potential questions, on these shows there is usually only a handful of secrets. Protecting this information is crucial. Williams TV Compliance can help put together a set of Best Practices at the very outset of pre-production to ensure that as many protections as possible are put in place to protect the secrecy, and can oversee tapings and production to ensure those Best Practices are followed. We also provide contestant briefings, detailed game reports, administer prize forms, and review cuts in post-production.

S&P experience includes: I Can See Your Voice, Snake Oil, The Masked Singer, Game of Talents, Crime Scene Kitchen

Performance-Based Competitions
Williams TV Compliance is the leading choice for compliance consulting for performance-based competition shows. Trae Williams has experience working on hundreds of episodes of Performance Competition series like American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance, The X Factor, and numerous others. We understand that the success of your show depends on fairness and transparency of voting and judging, and we are committed to helping you maintain integrity throughout the competition. We will work with you to develop customized solutions that address all compliance requirements, so you can focus on producing a show that showcases the best talent around.

S&P experience includes: American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance, The Four, Alter Ego, The X Factor

Skill-based Competitions
Skill-based Competitions can involve everything from cooking skills to toy building skills. Contestants typically compete in season long challenges with an elimination structure based on performance and/or judging leading to an ultimate winner. Ensuring that the Series Rules are comprehensive, and the Challenge Rules are detailed and clear is vital. Contestants should also be thoroughly briefed of all Rules and having an independent outside compliance consultant is not only reassuring to the contestants but also serves to support the producers in the oversight of game play.

S&P experience includes: Lego Masters, Domino Masters, Hell's Kitchen, Masterchef and Next Level Chef.

Physical-based Competitions
Physical-based competitions involve contestants competing in a series of physical challenges that test everything from strength to endurance, as well as survival and adaptability skills. Series and Challenge Rules should be detailed and thorough, and Contestants should always be fully briefed on the rules of every Challenge to avoid confusion and frustration. Williams TV Compliance can assist in both the Pre-Production development of the game and format, as well as the on-set oversight of the game play and challenges as the contest unfolds.
S&P experience includes: Special Forces: World's Toughest Test, American Grit, Kicking & Screaming, Boot Camp

Dating Competitions
Dating competitions can be strictly for the pursuit of love or can also involve the added element of prizing. Either way, having an outside Compliance Consultant assist in pre-production and on-set in production can help ensure the Contestants feel that the series is fair, that the Rules for any challenges are clear and properly briefed, and that the series as a whole is being administered in an appropriate manner.
